WD Rolls Out New 3TB, USB 3.0 External Storage Solutions

Just a couple days ago, Western Digital introduced their all new My Passport Essential, My Passport Essential SE, and My Book Essential portable/external hard drives. Every lineup comes in different storage capacities and offer super fast USB 3.0 connectivity. Large capacity is featured in the My Book Essential drive, which is now available in 3TB alongside with 2TB and 1TB varieties. All these drives come preloaded with WD’s SmartWave visual backup software for automated, continuous backups for users to store all their digital photos, high quality videos, also music, and any other important data on the extra space.

These drives don’t only take advantage of the latest and greatest high-speed USB 3.0 technology, but are entirely backwards compatible with the current mainstream standard of USB 2.0. However when connected to a SuperSpeed USB 3.0 port, data transfers can reach as high as 5 Gb/s. With those rates, a 2-hour HD video can take as little as 3 minutes to transfer compared to 13 minutes on a USB 2.0 port.
