HD 6970 Delayed, According to Report

Recently caught in the wild as well.

A fairly typical issue, yield problems. NVIDIA experience something like this in the past, but looks like it’ll be in their favor this holiday season when they manage to release their high-end GTX 580. Based on the sources in Taiwan, AMD’s manufacturing partner TSMC is experiencing difficulty generating enough quantities for the set date of November 22. It appears that the issues are bad enough that test yields amount only in the single digits.

The AMD Radeon HD 6970 (Cayman) will feature a 256-bit controller and 2GB of GDDR5 RAM, while the opposing GTX 580 is capped at 1.5GB of memory. These cards are intended for multi-display setups.

Being a rumor, do you think it’s a problem with the card’s architecture? Or the lack of fabrication capability on TSMC’s part? Tell us in the comments!
